Nominations for the 2017 AHI Professional Excellence in Housing Awards are now open!

We are excited to announce that nominations for the 2017 Australasian Professional Excellence in Housing Awards are now open in all Australian jurisdictions and New Zealand. Nominations are open until COB, Tuesday, 28 February 2017. The Awards provide an opportunity to showcase social housing success stories. The Awards formally recognise and reward excellence in professional practice, from the grass roots to the most senior levels. They promote to our colleagues and the community at large the difference that social housing professionals make to people's lives.
The Institute has run an awards program since 2004. This program has become increasingly popular with members and other housing professionals. In 2015 the Institute received a record number of nominations - 121 entries from more than 50 organisations from all over Australia and New Zealand. Click here to read more about 2015 nominees and winners.

Call for Speakers and Showcase Presenters: Innovation in Social Housing

The Australasian Housing Institute is now seeking interest from potential speakers and showcase presenters for the Innovation in Social Housing Professional Practice Seminar in Sydney on 13 December 2016.
Speaker topic areas may include: business innovation; social enterprises / non-traditional revenue streams for housing businesses; innovative housing practice; innovative; partnerships with private sector or NGO; innovative financing / funding models; innovative housing types.
Additionally, as part of this event we are featuring a showcase displaying innovative social housing property development projects. At start of the showcase each display presenter/host provides quick/brief overview of their display/presentation to whole group in main meeting space and then the group breaks out to an adjoining room, with delegates invited to take time to visit displays of interest and engage in discussions with presenter/host on an small group basis.

Mixed Tenure Housing Seminar Program Sneak Peek

HousingWORKS  December 2016: Open Edition

Once again this year we are planning an open edition of HousingWORKS and are currently seeking contributions from the sector. We welcome any articles that are related to social housing matters, including articles which focus on practice issues, opinion and comment, policy and research. We aim to include contributions from New Zealand, around Australia and overseas.
 The closing date for contributions is Friday, 18 November 2016. Read our Contribution Guide.

We also would like to invite you to participate in our new vox pop section. The question for this edition is “If you were the government for the day what strategy or policy would you implement to provide ‘affordable’ housing?”. Please, send a short 150-200 words opinion piece to to have a chance to be featured in the premier journal on social housing matters in Australia and New Zealand.

National Housing Conference 2017

29 Nov – 1 Dec 2017, Sydney
AHURI will convene the National Housing Conference 2017 in Sydney, in partnership with the NSW Department of Family and Community Services from 29 Nov – 1 Dec 2017 at the brand new International Convention Centre. With Sydney as the destination, and NSW leading the way in affordable housing policy reform, NHC 2017 is expected to be our biggest conference ever, with more than 1000 delegates from across the country expected to join us in Australia’s largest city.
