Welcome to the November edition of the HousingPEOPLE newsletter. The winners of the 2013 AHI Awards Program have finally been announced and it was a great pleasure to meet many members, partners and friends at the National Housing Conference 2013. The last two months of 2013 will be full of networking and professional development opportunities.
2013 Award Winners now announced!
The National Winners for the 2013 Australasian Professional Excellence in Housing Awards were announced on the 30th October 2013 at the Awards Presentation Dinner during the National Housing Conference 2013 in Adelaide. People from all around Australasia had an opportunity to gather together to celebrate the success and achievements of housing professionals, hear inspirational stories and congratulate the worthy winners. Hon Tony Piccolo, Minister for Social Housing in SA attended the ceremony and presented the Award for Outstanding Achievement and Dr Duncan McFetridge MP, Shadow Minister for Social Housing in SA closed the event and presented the Excellence in Social Housing Award.

Mark the date in your diary: AHI - CHFV Placemaking Forum, Melbourne
The Australasian Housing Institute (AHI) together with the Community Housing Federation of Victoria (CHFV) are pleased to present the Placemaking Forum. The forum will provide an opportunity for senior housing practitioners with interest in placemaking, community renewal and urban regeneration to openly discuss and express ideas of approaches to affirm, improve and create great places. The Forum will be held Tuesday, 10th December 2013 at the CHFV office (Level 1, 128 Exhibition St., Melbourne). Registrations will be open soon, so mark this date in your diary as you can't miss this unique networking opportunity.
Annual General Meeting
The Australasian Housing Institute's Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, 12th December 2013 at 5 pm at the Sebel Surry Hills in Sydney. At this meeting the new President and members of the Board will be appointed, annual reports such as the Directors' Report, Audited Financial Statements and the President's address will be presented.
We welcome all AHI members, friends and colleagues to join us to the discussion about the strategic direction of your association in 2014 and meet new President and Board Members.

AHI Christmas Parties
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Two Christmas Parties for AHI Members and friends will be held in Sydney and Adelaide. The NSW event will follow the Annual General Meeting and will be held on Thursday, 12th December 2013 at 6 pm at the Sebel Surry Hills in Sydney.
The event in Adelaide will be held on Wednesday, 11 December from 7:30 - 9:30 am at the Peel St Café 9 Peel Street, Adelaide.

We hope you're enjoying the October 2013 HousingWORKS edition which has been distributed last week to our members, subscribers and at the AHI booth during the National Housing Conference 2013. We would like to thank all contributors who sent their articles exploring further the issue of homelessness. The December 2013, edition will focus on the AHI Professional Excellence Awards Program and the main event of the industry, the National Housing Conference 2013, however the edition will not be limited to these topics therefore other contributions from the industry are very welcome and we encourage you to share your story with industry peers.

Remember, you do not need to be a professional writer to publish interesting and valuable work. - New Homelessness Research Seminar, delivered by AHURI, Thursday, 14 November, 2013, 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM, Sydney. This research seminar is based on two new AHURI research projects that provide contemporary evidence about homelessness in Australia. The session will tease out the emerging issue of homelessness for older Australians and help identify strategies to prevent the onset of homelessness for those older people who are precariously housed.
