2015 Professional Excellence in Housing Awards

Nominations for the 2015 AHI Professional Excellence in Housing Awards close in less than a month, so don't miss this opportunity to acknowledge and reward the achievements of your colleagues and celebrate the inspirational industry stories from around Australasia.
The dates for the State Receptions are now announced:
  • QLD/NT: Brisbane, 21st April- 6:30pm-8:30pm

  • SA: Adelaide, 28th May- 6:30pm-8:30pm

  • NSW/ACT: Sydney, 18th June – 6:30pm-8:30pm

  • VIC/TAS: Melbourne, 23rd July- 6:30pm- 8:30pm

  • WA: Perth, 13th August, 6:30pm-8:30pm

  • NZ: 22nd October, time and location tba

Finalists from each jurisdiction will automatically be entered in the Australasian Awards.The National Award Winners will then be announced during the National Housing Conference 2015 in Perth on the 28th October 2015 at 7:30 pm.

HousingWORKS March 2015: Call for Contributions

We hope you enjoyed reading the December edition of HousingWorks. Our team is now planning the March 2015 edition of the magazine and we would like to call for contributions from our members and the industry. During 2014 each HousingWorks had a specific theme, however this time we have decided to publish general edition. Therefore we welcome all articles that are related to the social housing industry. We are seeking for a balance between articles which focus on practice issues, opinion and comment, policy and research. We also aim to include contributions from people in New Zealand, around Australia and overseas.

Asset Management Professional Practice Seminar

Following requests from the industry the fourth Asset Management Seminar is to be held in Melbourne on 3rd March 2015. A professional practice seminar providing senior housing professionals with an interest in asset management the opportunity to exchange ideas and innovative practice methods to manage housing portfolios for sustainable stakeholder outcomes. During the seminar participants will be able to hear from representatives of such organisations as Department of Human Services Victoria,  Compass Housing Services, Housing Choices Australia, Access Housing, SPM Assets, Hi-Tech Inspect.

Indigenous Housing Professional Practice Seminar

23 March 2015, Sydney

The Indigenous Housing Professional Practice Seminar will be held in Sydney on 23rd March 2015. This seminar aims to provide an opportunity for mainstream public and community housing professionals to join with experts working in the indigenous social housing field to improve understanding of the respective sectors and identify opportunities for service planning and delivery across all sectors for the benefit of the indigenous community.
Special guest of the event is the Hon Matt Conlan MLA, Minister for Housing, the Northern Territory

Leadership Master Class: Empowering Social Housing Leaders

17-19 May 2015 Sydney

The Australasian Housing Institute would like to invite social housing leaders to attend the Leadership Master Class that will be held in May 2015 in Sydney. The Leadership Master Class provides an opportunity for existing and emerging leaders within the social and community housing sector to participate in a high-level development program with their industry peers. 
Purposefully residential, the Leadership Masterclass empowers delegates to take focused time and space to refresh and extend their leadership capabilities to aid success and meet demands of future industry growth and change. 
An engaging schedule of sessions and workshops will be presented by facilitators with experience and proven track records of success in leadership development and experienced housing leaders with focus on building understanding and capacity in four key areas: Self-leadership, Interpersonal leadership, Team leadership and Strategic leadership.

Networking Breakfast with Steven Persson

5 May 2015, Melbourne

STEVEN PERSSON, Chief Executive Officer, The Big Issue in Australia Ltd will be speaking at an AHI networking breakfast in Melbourne on the 5th of May 2015 from 7am to 9am.
Steven will be speaking about the Homes for Homes project.Homes for Homes is an initiative that will help raise an ongoing supply of new funding for social and affordable houses. Homes for Homes was inspired by a smaller, developer-driven model established in the US. In 2008, an advisory group of industry leaders, including Steven Persson, began work on developing a similar, but independent model tailored to suit the needs of the Australian market. Homes for Homes has undergone significant concept development and business planning over the past six years, involving extensive reviews and consultations, including by government treasuries and housing departments. Read more and register on-line.

As the future of housing and homelessness services continues to evolve in a context of considerable change, the Working Together Conference will gather community housing providers, homelessness services and associated sectors with a focus on innovation, sustainability and partnerships. Q Shelter is excited to announce the Key Note Speaker David Orr, CEO from the UK’s National Housing Federation. David Orr brings a vision for community housing with a practical understanding of the various challenges and opportunities. David will deliver a keynote address and contribute throughout the day on themes such as achieving a strategic future for community housing, rising to the challenge of stock transfers and building the capacity of the sector to grow. 18-20 February 2015, University of Tasmania, Hobart 
The Australasian Housing Researchers conference is an important conference for all housing researchers. It provides an essential opportunity for housing researchers internationally to exchange their theoretical and empirical research and engage with colleagues across a wide range of disciplines, and from academic, government and non-government sectors. It is open to all researchers concerned with housing affordability and homelessness, housing policy and planning, housing economics, housing sustainability, and regional, national and international housing markets. As well as established researchers, the input and participation of early career researchers is especially welcome. Call for papers. Organisers invite both theoretical and policy oriented papers from across the social sciences that explore the complex social, economic and political issues in housing today and what these mean for our housing futures.
