In this edition we continue introducing new AHI Board Members, who joined the Institute at the Annual General Meeting at the end of 2017. In April we welcome John Shevlin, ACT Director. Click here to see the full AHI Governing Board.

John Shevlin, Director, ACT

I joined Housing ACT in May 2015 as the Senior Manager with responsibility for ACT housing policy.  In this role I also chaired the Tenants’ Consultative Group established by Housing ACT to receive tenant input on our policies and practices and to learn from tenants’ experiences.  I greatly enjoyed the opportunity to work with tenants but was struck by the range of different life experiences and challenges facing many social housing residents.  For me, it was an education and an opportunity to help improve outcomes for some of the more vulnerable members of the community through our collaborative efforts.  I am now working in Tenancy Operations managing Housing ACT’s service delivery activities.
The Australasian Housing Institute is the professional body for those working in the social housing sector.  As a relative newcomer to the sector, it seemed only sensible to seek to access the resources, expertise and knowledge available within the Institute.  During my term on the Board I hope to build membership numbers and help to promote the value of the Institute across the social housing sector.
The AHI Mentoring Program is currently in a full swing with mentors and mentees enjoying building meaningful mentoring relationships.

In this edition of the HousingPEOPLE e-newsletter we introduce the matched pairs:
  • Robin Fletcher, Partnerships & Systems Service Manager, Link Housing
  • Kylie Lindsay, Housing Services Manager, Women’s Housing Company
